Poppies near trail

Continuing Sec. E

After spending 4 event filled days at the PCT kickoff in Lake Morena(I was thrilled meeting Teddi Boston, the first woman to thru hike the PCT)my friend Kiltman dropped me off at the Cottonwood Creek Bridge around 4 PM. We checked with Bob Mayon of Hikertown for his shortcut to avoid all the miles on dirt roads. The poppy bloom in the preserve area is peaking.

Spectacular time to hike this section--carpets of wildflowers are everywhere. Each new turn in the trail reveals a different color of flower--yellow, blue, white, pink. The trail signs were adequate to navigate the maze of criss-crossing dirt bike trails. Arrived at Tylerhorse Canyon and surprisingly saw 5 other hikers already camped. Beautiful camp--surreal black skeletal Joshua Trees surrounded by fields of gold flowers. The full moon came up over the rim of the canyon and silhouetted a dramatic charred snag.

The other hikers were also section hiking--three heading north like me and two going south.
