Pool in Deep Creek

Deep Creek

An interesting day--many new wildflowers including a first for me--the desert Mariposa lily that is deep orange with lavender stamens. I was thrilled. The trail contoured along the river drainage and was beautiful. Camp spots were few because of the steepness. Very showy bush poppies and lots of Native American use plants--purple brodeia, flannelbush, basket brush. Also blooming cactus with magenta flowers.

An early ford of Holcomb creek caused me to put my Tevas back on and I hiked in them most of the morning--very liberating. My feet thanked me for the light of day. I met Gray Eagle--hiking with his daughter Tie Dye and GoldPaint. He had worked on the same Forest Service District as me on the Sierra National Forest.
