Snow on Ridge Obscuring trail

Over Mt. Baden Powell

Back on the trail and over Mt. Baden-Powell. Solid snow about 2 miles up the trail from Vincent Gap obliterated the switchbacks and made the ascent by kicking steps in the soft snow close to vertical affair. I didnt use my ice axethe trekking poles were good enough stability. I was also glad I had stiffer shoes (Merrill Moab Mids). The worst part was following the trail on the ridge north of Baden-Powellhuge drifts on the north side of the ridge made trail locating problematic for several miles. My progress was around 1 mile per hour. Finally the drifts abated and a big descent through a fire scar led to copiously flowing and delicious Little Jimmy Springs. I felt the water didnt need to be filtered. I was pleasantly surprised to see two Giant Sequoias growing near the spring. Their home ranges have been shrinking for centuries and now only relict populations exist in small drainages outside of Sequoia National Park. Two guys from New Zealand and a couple were staying at Little Jimmie Trail Camp.
