Little Tahquitz Valley

Idyllwild

Mile 178.6
Elevation:
Others here: Sojo, Capt'n Bivy
Start walking: 8:00 am
Stop walking: 10:30 am

We made our way up to the ridge in the general direction of Saddle Junction
pretty easily. However it took us some time to find the Devils Slide trail
down to Idyllwild. Sojo was the one who seemed to have the best nose for
where the trail should be. It was a little frustrating to know we were in
the general area but still couldn't find the trail. I was actually praying
for help to find it just minutes before we came upon the trail down.

We met Capt'n Bivy and Alex on our way into town. The nice man that stopped
to give us a ride already had them in the car. It turned out that they were
camped not more than a half mile east of us.

We have heard different conflicting reports about the trail conditions from
Saddle Junction on over to and across Fuller Ridge. From it is impassable
to it will be easier than what you have already done. Sojo is planning to
go around that section and pick up the trail just south of fuller ridge. I
plan to join 3 or 4 others to go across tomorrow and the next day. We will
stick together to help each other through. We plan to head that direction
and if at any point anyone is uncomfortable they can turn back. I have
decided to camp just before fuller ridge and then go across the next day
around 10am when the snow is soft. If they disagree and want to attempt the
whole thing in one day, I won't go.
