March 25th - day #1

Today is finally the day I start thru hiking the PCT! It's been a long time, but it's finally here. Hopefully I can find a way to hike northbound without any pauses or flip flopping, but this means the sierras are going to be a huge challenge. On to today. Started hiking at 8 am and met Karen Keller at the trailhead. Evan is going to catch up later. The creek at around mile 3 was about 2 feet wide upstream of the foot bridge, but the water looked terrible. I saw a snake, but don't think it was a rattler because it was silent and looked to have a pointy tail--although I wasn't wearing my glasses. The creek at mile 4.3 was 3 feet wide with good flow--there was poison oak to the right of the crossing. Karen got water here, but also touched the poisen oak so had to spend some time washing off. The creek at mile 6.5 was only maybe half a foot wide, but flow was good enough for me to get (a lot of) water here. Today I used my Golite umbrella for most of the day, which was so nice. Could not find the campsite I used last time so we camped at utm 11s 0544755 3612282, mile 11. Evan walked in at about 6:30 pm. Went to sleep at 8 pm in bivy with quilt footbox completely open. Did not use earplugs or sleeping pills, but should have because I couldn't sleep. At least I was warm and didn't have to get up to pee at all. Temperatures at night were around 45F.
