End of Journey

I hate when a journey comes to an end. The weather matched my mood as I tried to remain upbeat when we reached the deserted campground. In fact, everything was closed down for the season. We still had to get to Yosemite Village where Chris's cousin was going to pick us up tomorrow. We were quite soggy from yesterday's storm and did not relish camping out, so proceeded to make our way down the road to a good hitchhiking spot. A trailhead nearby looked like the likely place. A nice lady said she wasn't going to Yosemite, but could give us a ride to the next large pullout where are chances were better. At this pullout, traffic was coming and going just not in our direction. it started to downpour and I must have had that desperate look on my face when a lady pulled in. I hadn't gotten the words out of my mouth yet and she said she could give us a ride all the way to Yosemite Village. Thank you Carolyn MacKenzie! You were a true trail angel that day. Carolyn turned out to be very familiar with the area and gave us the grand tour. We landed in the village and had a real culture shock. Oh, the people!! I can't imagine being here in the peak of the tourist season. We felt so sorry for ourselves, we splurged and split a room at the infamous Ahwahnee Resort. I made a visit to the clinic for my eye and was referred to an eye doctor in Fresno first thing tomorrow. Chris took in the evening performance of Shelton Johnson speaking on the Buffalo Soldier while I stayed in the room with a very sore eyeball. It was a good thing we weren't camping out as the thunder and lightning lasted into the night.
