Mt Shasta view
A 6:30am shuttle pickup brought me to the trailhead to start the
journey through Oregon. I had some jitters at first, but got into the
rhythm of the hiking and the beauty of the trail. It was a perfect
stretch of trail to get back into the swing of things. Fairly level,
open (except for brushy sections in the beginning and end), no water
worries, and lots of beauty to enjoy. The weather was great too-not
too hot and a breeze. I had views of Pilot Rock at first, then jaw
dropping views of Mt Shasta for a few miles. Everything was so green,
and wildflowers were abundant. I took a lunch break at mile 11 in a
lovely meadow with a nice water spigot. The last part of the day my
feet were pretty sore. I was hoping to camp at Keene Reservoir, but
there wasn't much there. So I filled with water and went another mile
or so. I now have a cushy pine needle campsite in the woods. I am a
bit worried about poison oak and ivy, though. I've seen a lot of both,
and it's hard not to get exposed.
Thanks to Cascade Shuttle and Ashland Commons Hostel. I recommend both.
happy trails to you!
