The first entry of this year...it's coming late cause I couldn't figure out if I wanted to continue last year's or start anew. We hiked most of California last year. We were sidelined by low morale and Yeahbut's swollen knee.
So what's the plan this year? We're hoping to do some short hikes over parts of the trail we missed (because of snow) last year. We can then catch the train back up to Dunsmuir in northern California and continue our northbound hike.
Since we don't have to get on the trail in April, We'll use the time to log some more miles on the Arizona Trail.
My attitude is much more relaxed this year. Last year, I spent alot of time thinking about all the details. After 3-4 months on the trail last year, I now know that a few things are very important (training, getting the feet thing right, making sure the gear is in good condition), but most things will 'fall together' with just a bit of work. The only thing we'll do different this year is possibly go cook-less during some sections. We learned that after a long day of hiking, relaxing in the sleeping bag and picking thru the food bag for something to munch on was sometimes nicer that having a hot meal. I'm going to do a bit more buying along the way, too; junk food and other local goodies are a part of the experience.
We're looking forward to Kick-Off, meeting some new and old friends, and enjoying the trail!
