Not Weather Wussies

Running in the rain

The first big storm of the year is rolling through California this weekend. A good friend of ours, Julianne, is doing the 3 day Susan B. Komen walk for breast cancer. There are about 4,000 participants. They walk 20 miles each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Each night they camp in tents. Hmmm, this sounds familiar....hope you have your rain gear, Julianne.

This is early for a storm of this magnitude to come rolling through. We are hoping it isn't a sign of an epic winter. No, not this year! Mammoth (read the Sierras) is getting dumped on. They already have 2 feet of freshies and more on the way tomorrow. Apprehensive is a good word to relate how we are feeling today. Can't stop the snow or the rain, so we went on a 5K training run down the beach. Southwesterly wind about 15 knots and lots of rain. Air temp a balmy 56 so it was actually quite fun. No people on the beach but us and one lifeguard sitting in his warm truck. We have this song that we sing (to the tune of "singing in the rain" - it goes, "We're running in the rain, just running in the rain...."). We were soaked by the time we got home. Barb says "We aren't weather wussies", she's right (well maybe it is spelled wusses?). With that said, we don't have a song for "Hiking in the rain" (just hiking, hiking, in the rain).

Hey, REI is having a sale this week and they have some sweet looking snowshoes! - Bring it on!
