Norm squeezed in the cargo area
Baden Powell
Sent from the tent at Little Jimmy CG.
We got a ride from Wrightwood up to Inspiration Point (would have been a 5 mile hike uphill!) by a trail angel named Becky. There were four of us in her car along with her child. Norm had to ride in the back cargo area with the packs. We started hiking at 9:30.
It was a long hard day - we went 15 miles in 8 hours - Vertical today, 3,625 feet (max altitude about 9,000 ft, summit of Baden Powell)
There was lots of snow and it was very soft - even with microspikes under foot, it was very slippery.
Steep faces - dangerous if you took a ride. The most difficult day yet. We paired up with a Canadian couple - Norm and Kelly.
You just have to focus on your steps and ignore the steep face below you. The four of us did well - George (the GPS) helped us out along the way. Now camping below snow line at Little Jimmy Campground - pit toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. Had a campfire tonight (In a metal grate). Cold, but no more snow until the Sierras. In the next few days we will be dropping down to the desert section.
Photos coming in a few days. .
Later note, we have met a number of hikers who got lost up there. One group dropped down 2,000 feet below the trail, only to discover their error and had to climb back up. The extra time meant that they would spend the night near the top. This was not easy.
