Sierra Conditions

We just reached Mammoth today and are staying at a condo on the invitation of more wonderful angels (Diane, Bobby, Pat, and Crystal).

Our recommendations for anyone attempting Glenn Pass to Reds Meadows.

Mather Pass: Know how to use your ice axe. Only a technical traverse is possible on the left flank. PCT trail on right totally snowed over and impassible.

Rivers and streams are overbank - the melt is in full swing. Big rivers are a sight to see.

Snow everywhere, only West and South facing areas are somewhat clear (altitude and tree covered dependent).

Some stream crossings boardering on dangerous, life threatening.

Going is very slow. Plan on 1-2 mph average over slushy or snow cupped snow unless your name is Malto.

Bear Creek was an adrenaline rush (cross downstream, where the islands are, three crossings, last is hairy)
Mono Creek (mile 882 approx) was most difficult. It would be near impossible to go back once you leap from the logs to the opposite shore.

This is not the PCT we signed up for.

More details and wild Sierra stories coming to this journal in the next few days. It was quite the adventure.
