Boo Boo up for a Burger and Brew in Etna

Boo Boo, Burgers, and Chocolate Cake

Did I forget to tell you that Barb (A-Barb, aka Boo Boo) was coming up. Yippie! She flew from San Diego to San Francisco with our friend Julianne. Then they rented a car and were in Redding last night. Also, my friend Curtis is proported to be cruising around in the area.

At mile 1566, the PCT crosses Highway 3. There is really nothing there but a parking lot. It is called Scott Summit. Nearby is a summer camp for kids called Camp Unalayee. It is run by another long time friend, Lowell. Curtis still has an active role in the camp and we were all invited to come to the camp if we were ever in the area.

Well, here we were, coming down the hill to highway 3. We were expecting a huge welcoming party, banners, and fireworks but, there was no one. I knew Barb was in the area, so we waited. 30 minutes later, Curtis pulls up in a big truck. He has cold beer, chips, salsa, pastries, cream cheese, fresh fruit and lots of other things - the PARTY is on! Another 20 minutes later, Barb and Julianne pull up with more beer and food. And a birthday cake! First words out of my mouth: What happened to your hair? Barb: Let's just call it a "coloring malfunction."

We had a great time there in the parking lot for about 2 hours then packed it up and drove to Etna for burgers and beer at the brewery (how could we still be hungry?). We camped in the Etna city park. It is a nice spot complete with restrooms with running water.

Having two cars would allow us to slack pack the next segment or two.
