Well this is a switch for me, totally. I got off the PCT because it was getting more and more difficult to find somewhere to hike that wasn't completely snowed under. On my ride home I had decided I would jump on the AT somewhere and hike till summer was over, but the more I thought I thought what the heck I have enough time to do a Southbound hike, so I will be leaving Sunday to Maine where I will jump on the ole AT and try a 6th thru hike. The last time I did the AT was 10 years ago so my joints have gotten a bit older and although I don't worry about doing the miles, even though they are more difficult then the PCT I do think about the 1000ft climbs in a mile that constitutes rock climbing rather then hiking. After I make it out of NH I'll be okay. So wish me Gods speed and lets go do the AT --one more time--
I usually take a month or longer to sort out maps, resupply boxes etc. but this time I have exactly 1 count it one week to get everything I will need for 6 months on the trail which not only includes maps and food but different gear, as when I finish in NH I will be able to go to much lighter sleeping bag and clothes but when I hit the south about Oct. I will need to get the cold weather gear back. My poor husband!!
Sue Keep me posted on when you want to come out. you are welcome to join me anywhere along the trail during the summer, and down in the south.
