Canada!

October 17 we made it to the Canadian border! After the rainy child weather
we had for the rest of Washington..we had gorgeous weather from Stehekin to
the border. We walked for 3 or 4 days through snow..sometimes over a foot
deep..powder, crusty, slushy..all kind of conditions of snow depending on
the sun and elevation..BUT..it was sunny and that made a potential crazy and
dangerous condition, well, pleasant. If the sky was clear, no more snow and
what you see ids what you get...and we got lucky! Crystal clear blue
sky..cool days cold nights...frozen water bottles frozen tent walls and
gorgeous views of the north Cascades. Man it is beautiful up there, stark,
rocky, steep, snowy and for our days clear and shining in the sun. Like I
said, we got lucky..on the Canadian border in mid October and it was great.

So we reached the border..whooped it up, took pictures, signed the register
book..and camped not far from there. Our friends reached the border a few
hours later and we had a group of 11 partying and celebrating. Other than
the mouse chewing a hole in my tent..it was a perfect night. People at the
border: myself (Half Step), Ramblin' Rose, Softwalker, Yard Sale, Little
Bug, Squirrel, Crew, Mark, Charlie, Brian, and Fidel.
Congrats to the class of 2011..what a great group of people...what a trail,
what an adventure.

We are almost the end group..good luck to the few behind us, Rockfish and
Noodles, possibly the Bum Brothers.

On another note..it was wonderful to share the trail and experience with my
darling daughter Ramblin' Rose. It wasn't always easy..mostly because I'm
not the coolest confident cat out there..but she always kept a cool head,
and made it fun. It is a dream to have my daughter also be my friend..and
for this I am so happy.

Team Badass made it! What a long strange trip its been!

All Journeys Have Secret Destinations Of Which The Traveler Is Unaware

It's all still there in heart and soul. The walk, the hills, the sky, the solitary pain and pleasure - they will grow larger, sweeter, lovelier in the days and years to come.
- Edward Abbey
