Does it get any better?

Day 26 - Heaven

Today was one of the toughest challenges. I had the heaviest pack yet at about 30lb, I ascended to well over 10,000ft and there would be snow in places. And I needed to do 30+ miles. After wasting a half hour getting the gorilla (pack) just right I really struggled up the first climb. The pack weigh took some getting used to. But then it was a pretty normal hiking day.

The scenery was the best yet. I had not been that far south in the Sierra but I will definitely return especially for snowshoeing. I hit snow in a few areas but it was no big deal. It did provide me with an opportunity to make Malto slushies which were great. Will be repeating that through the Sierra.

I stopped tonight after 32 because I finally saw two hikers, a campfire and water. I needed all three. I quickly hung my food from the bears and joined them at the fire. I really enjoyed that.

It is cold on this ridge. Will definitely be below freezing so we'll see how my UL setup likes the cold. Not too worried since I've had it down below zero with a couple of small additions.

Tomorrow - snow, major league. I'm ready. It will be interesting to see the mileage.

On the cool front. I saw two jet fighters swoop below me as I climbed out of Death Canyon. Love seeing our tax dollars at work.
