Anticipation
About two more months to go, I can't wait. Even though I have most of my gear and my planning done, I still spend countless hours researching gear, reading journals, and making alcohol stoves in my garage for fun (and I am getting pretty good at it).
Last night I went camping with a few friends and tried out my new Big Agnes sleeping bag, and I love it! It's a huge improvement from my last bag. Before I had an REI halo 25 degree bag, but it was too fragile and had too little room to move. This new bag is roomie and has a built in flap to insert a sleeping pad. I'm happy I finlly found a good bag. Having a good night sleep when I'm backpacking is really important. I can get a bit grumpy when I can't sleep well. I also got rid of a few things I found to be unnecessary, such as my sleeping bag liner and extra warmth layers.
So this place we went camping was awesome. It was an old place next to a stream where there used to be a hunters cabin. All that remains is part of the foundation and the fireplace. It was calm and clear the whole time and the frogs were so loud it was almost hard to get to sleep. Nothing beats southern California in the winter.
