Pacific Crest Trail Map

Keep the positive attitude

Still hiking with Wrangler, Wiz and FlyBy. I would hike any mountain with these guys. We have a really good group and separately they are just as awesome. We hitched back to the trail late one afternoon. The plan was to get a few miles in, but nothing crazy. We start hiking and see Pyrite and Chinchilla waiting for Pyrite's parents to show up. Rhino and Dirtmonger, two hikers I had not met, were also at the trailhead. Pyrite's parents came with plums, bananas, cherries, and homemade cookies. Just the fuel we needed. I was feeling great until I decided that a snowfield looked too steep and I took a different route than the guys. I ended up near a snow cliff that was only about 5 feet high, so I lowered my pack down for better stability. As I dropped my pack it started to roll and picked up momentum. Bones broke in half, my two water bottles flew out, and my pack ended up barely missing a creek and landing in a steep gorge about 100 feet away. Wiz, who was way up on the trail, offered to get my pack since he was already on the dirt side of the gorge and I would have had to jump down the snow cliff and risk hurtling myself down the mountain. I made my way back to the safer route and we were back on track. All of the fruit and cookies powered us through until late that evening.

Had a great town stop in Tahoe with my friend M&M. We met hiking the AT in '07 and have kept in touch since. She wanted to do some trail magic and take a vacation so she planned her trip around the time I would be there. Good thing she was there for a week and a half because I was 6 days later than I thought I would be. The snow really has slowed us down. I rented mountain bikes with FlyBy and we rode around town and trails all day. A little urban assault combined with a nice trail in the woods. Stopped by the beach and took a dip. Crazy to see snow capped mountains while it's hot and sandy.
