day 5
Rested well at Pooh Corner...hard to believe how nice they are to hikers, inviting them into their home and feeding all of us like family.Ended up with 5 hikers there for the night. They served all of us a huge dinner including salmon, chicken, sweet corn and more! Then they fixed us a big breakfast this morning with omlettes and pancakes.Bill gave us a ride back to the trailhead just after 7:30.We had about 3 miles to I-80, crossing it under two tunnels. We did 14 more miles for the day and had still much snow to deal with, but none of it was scary today just annoying!!It was a 12 hour day again. We used map and compass quite a bit after lunch because the tracks we followed in the open would disappear in the trees. The map and compass worked well and every time. we would end up just 20-50 feet from the trail.Watching and asking questions I've learned a bit about how to use my compass. Now it is 9 pm and we are camped again on a ridge, but tonite we have water, unlike a few nights ago. Hopefully make it to Sierra city tomorrow night, some 20+ miles.
