New town socks!!!

Life on a Zero

From bed this morning I placed an order at REI.com for new Superfeet, the next water filter replacement, and more MSR Sweetwater Siltstoper filters....I'm afraid I am officially paranoid about water purity and so I want to be as prepared as possible for whenever the water filter wears out next. Halfmile, the dude who put together the maps I am using, warns that a surprising number of hikers come out of the next couple of sections with Giardia...I don not want to be one of them, but mostly, I just want my water to taste yummy.

Unfortunately, the library's computers were all down. We thought we were still in luck when we heard about the Kmart's computers and internet access, but when we got there, meeting Gnarly on the way, we saw that there was only one and there was a half hour limit. Plus, they have the computer set up so that you cannot load photos. This contributed drastically to how far behind I was with this journal. No biggie, I suppose, in the grand scheme, but I still got a couple done on my phone. While at Kmart, we saw Kay and Eden once again! the four of us wanted to slack pack the 8 miles in between Tehachapi-Willow Springs road, where we came in, and Highway 58, which also runs into Tehachapi. Slack packing it would make it easy, since we would only bring what we need for the couple of hours it takes to do it, and we would be able to begin hiking North again minus the 8 miles; meaning less water to carry as this next section is rather spread out as far as water sources go. We would set up a ride for us for in the morning and carpool.

We visited a tiny celebration market on the main drag and I found my Mom her birthday present- I was so excited! She called me not long after we left the booth and instead of keeping my mouth shut and having it be a surprise, I was so excited about my find that I told her. I didn't say what it was (and I still won't since her birthday isn't until the 25th and she doesn't get to open the package until then- hi Mom!) but I told her I found it.

For dinner, Gnarly, Kaye, and I went to a Mediterranean deli called Petra. AND OHMYGOD, their food was amazing- SO amazing. I had a wrap and she even added grilled zuchinni to the already tummy-rumbling mix of mushrooms, bell peppers, hummus, tahini sauce, and avocado on an organic wheat wrap... Kaye had a falaphal wrap that I got to taste and IT was SO good TOO. Gnarly, who is also a vegan, had a platter loaded witha ll sorts of deliciousness and I got to try a dolma for the first time ever. After dinner, we strolled across the street to the movie theater and saw the fourth Pirates of the Carribean, On Stranger Tides. Even though Orlando Bloom and Keirra Knightly were not in this one, Johnny Depp is hilarious and talented enough to carry it- really funny flick.

Tehachapi is a cool town, spread out, just like Yogi's guide told us, but worth it.
