Time to start journaling I guess. Yesterday I described the route that I will be taking this year and hopefully finish the entire PCT. I know, I know, I have said that for the past 6 years, but this year, welllll, I just have a feeling.
Once again this year, I have increased the workouts in duration and intensity in order to compensate for being one year older. Iwill turn 75 in December and I want to be finished before that birthday.
In days gone by, I have trained five days per week (four days hiking with my backpack loaded with 34 lbs) and one day weight lifting. This year, I added another day of weight lifting and I increased the weights from an average of 90 lbs to 130 lbsfor all leg exercises. Also, on the days that I lift weights, I have added 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the bicycle or the treadmill (wearing my backpack with 34 lbs). Finally, on the days where I hike with my backpack, I have increased my hiking times by 30 mins for each of the 4 hiking workout days. Usually I hike between 6 – 8 miles.
On a side note, had a bobcat come strolling through my backyard couple weeks ago and I live in a residential area. I do have a wooded lot with trails and the bobcat came walking out on one of the trails. Gorgeous creature. I took videos but I do not know a way to show a video on this site.
