Pacific Crest Trail Map

Most Plesent Day

I chose to start at Diamond Lake because I had been there before, it was a lower elevation trail but the intersection with the PCT is near the highest point the trail will ascend in Oregon 7600 ft. So to keep it interesting I get lost and start heading down a river. Now I know I should be climbing but I'm in a hurry and then I get angry then I go faster because my anger drowns all other pains. Can you imagine anger or any strong emotion when lost. I made a living doing that on this Trip. Actually when I worked in the woods I could never move forward if I didn't know exactly where I was at and be able to prove it to myself. Now I go out here all the time and get lost and really don't care that much. It forces me to take my eyes off the trail and do some cross country work if I get it perfect and today will be perfect. I was deep in this Mt Hemlock forest the snow piles were 6 foot high everywhere and I was a thousand feet below the pass that I have to find and cross, then it gets interesting. I'll have to drop down out of the snow and into a river valley and it has to be the right one. Anyway it kind of makes me feel like an explorer and certainly added to the adventure.

The piles of snow just made me laugh and I called a friend, text-ed another and just started reading the contour map and had a great afternoon. I went to bed lost and exhausted because I had covered nearly 15 miles since first getting lost. I had to sleep in a open sandbar only flat spot around and did it ever get cold but my equipment was perfect for the occasion.
