Hopkins Lake

Great start to the day with pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and tea all provided by trail angel Serpent Slayer. Lots of food for all of us. Hard to get moving away from the campsite, but we did get rolling onto the trail around 9:30.

Has some nice views going up and over ridges today. Saw snow, but didn't walk through any. We could see how difficult it would have been starting a southbound hike beginning in July. That journey would definitely have required GPS to stay on the trail, and crampons and an ice axe to live through the traversing of these mountains.

Saw several backpackers that were out for a few days at the beginning of the day. One even asked for a picture with me because of the long beard.

We took our breaks with Derek and we are camped with him as well. Also saw Old Drum on and off today. At a campsite near ours, I met Birdnut, who is thru hiking as well. Saw Andrew in the afternoon as he made his way back to Harts Pass to get picked up by family (rather than enter into Canada after finishing the PCT). We are camped at a lake that is mostly filled with snow run off.

Tomorrow we hit the Canadian border and we will have completed our journey. Like any other adventure that takes some time, it is both hard to believe that we have finally made it, and hard to believe that the time has flown by already....sweet for the achievement and bitter for the end of a great time in the wilderness.
