Pacific Crest Trail Map
After last year's frustrations on the trail, Yeahbut and I are going at the PCT again! The snow loads look better, so we're excited to do some more backpacking on this trail...the sights and experiences are fantastic!
We finally finished updating the photos on last year's journal, for those of you who enjoy photography. We were happy to see some included in the Class of 2011 show that J and B put together. They did a wonderful job.
What have we been up to? I worked ALOT this winter, saving up for some more hiking time. We finished the Arizona Trail; we saved the 'best' section for last. The Mazatzal Range is in central Arizona. It has some incredibly rough trail and marginal water sources. We were lucky that despite the dry winter, there was a snow storm that came through while we were up there. It kept the temps reasonable and kept the water sources flowing. One source in particular made me appreciate how good the water in southern Cal is. We found the spring, and it had water, but it was in a rusted culvert. The water looked like a fine red wine, but was NOT! Even with filtering, we got more than our MDA of iron drinking that water. When we cleaned the pump, we had to throw out the filter. Such is the life of a desert hiker.
We've helped out a few AZT thrus, bought a little bit of new gear, worked on some new recipes, etc. I dread making up the boxes again, but at least there aren't too many left!
We'll be off to Kick Off in a few days. We plan to hike in from Mt Laguna for fun. Can't wait to see everyone and talk trail!
