Pacific Crest Trail Map

Five Passes

We were enjoying our morning cup of coffee while Slick B made all the PCT
hikers a bacon, egg, cheese and english muffin breakfast sandwich. What a
way to start the day!! The trail left camp and started a 700 foot to the
first pass of the day, Buffalo. After this we crossed Windy, Foggy, Jim
and Holman Passes. The trail maps warned of a water shortage for twenty
miles but we found many good sources crossing or near the trail. We waited
for water until arriving at the spring they indicated as a good spot before
the next climb, this was the poorest spring we have used. We loaded up on
the additional water that we will need for both dinner and breakfast. After
a long climb the trail descended into a deep bowl before starting to climb
up again, it was getting dark so we selected the first decent campsite we
found. The site sits below a mountain with alot of snow still hanging to
the bare rock. The trail today showed off more of the brilliant fall colors
including the nearby peaks. We met several PCT hikers that were returning
from Canada so that they don't need the proper forms to cross the border.
