in the Reno airport, excited to be going home, but sad the trip
Sept 25, Tuesday: hiking day 23
Cold morning, 31 degrees in my tent. Thankfully not cold enough that all our water was iced. We were down to the last bits of food in our bear canisters, little food and a big trash bag, as it should be on the last morning out. All I have left is some powdered milk. Actually our food allotment for these 5 days was pretty much spot on.
We climbed out of our camp at Kennedy Canyon, out of the trees into a moonscape that lasted the entire morning. The entire first few miles was a mountain made seemingly of only crushed gravel. Fortunately easy walking today all around 10,800' until the final drop onto Sonora Pass at 9624'.
You're not going to believe this, another bright sunny day without a cloud in the sky. Cool, (verging on cold) breeze all day though.
We popped out onto the pass in the early afternoon and shortly thereafter, Steve and Teri Purvis drove up earlier than planned and whisked us away in their truck at seemingly lightning speed, we just hadn't been in a car in a while.
They treated us to a scrumptious salmon dinner wrapped in pastry dough, a yummy Chardonnay and a triple sorbet for dessert to cleanse the palate. Yum!! We actually stayed up until 10:00, way beyond our usual 8PM bedtime.
A sparring pair of some sort of raptor with almost all white underneath. I need a bird book again.
