Planning for the PCT has been done over the last year. Flew from Honolulu to LA a few weeks back, planning to spend time with family and to finish PCT preparations, but then had to do a couple quick jobs in Port Clinton, Ohio and near Fort Benning, Georgia and got back to LA area just in time to attend brother's wedding and scramble to get to Campo.
Day 0 - April 26, 2012: Departed Union Station 5:10p for Old Town, the Green Trolley, and a motel near the Cajon Transportation Center. The Campo bus leaves shortly after 9 in the morning, gotta be ready.
The adventure begins.
Zander blog, Day 0: It has been a pretty busy day with all the last minute errands including laundering my down sleeping bag which I seem to have ruined. Thought I tumbled dried it enough but pulled it out of the bag and found all the down all crumpled up! Gotta get that fixed or it may be a whole new bag for me to buy.
Packing up the seemingly enormous amount of items into the bag got me wondering what I could do without and asking my dad if I needed this or that. At the end pretty much everything still went in. I dare not get the bag weighed. The questions that the present of a solar-panel charger for my phone from my dad were answered slowly by the tests done with what little sun there was today but seemed to do the trick.
Travel to the Amtrak via the subway went pretty smooth. It wasn't until I was trying to find the track gateway that my dad and I got all crossed up, walking by the gate that was mine thrice. Nuff said.
A beautiful ride down along the Pacific Coast with a sunset reminded me of the warm sunny days back home in HI; they will be there when I get back. Immediately got onto the Green line trolley only to realize once it got moving that I was supposed to pay for the ride before I got on. I promised myself that I would still purchase a ticket once I got off. Well when I got off the trolley there was a cop standing right there and I walked by down the stairs got to the bottom and realized the ticket booths were upstairs right next to the cop. He must have thought I was weird purchasing a ticket and then walking away after having just got off the trolley. The Relax Inn was easy to find but the lady tried to charge me 69$ instead of the 55$ that I quoted earlier in the day; she was nice enough though.
