My dogs love my quilt, it's hard to keep them off

Journal Entry

I'm a 45 year old desk jockey living in Bay Area. I plan to do PCT in 2012 and am not sure where to start with preparations. My coworker did it in 1999, he pointed me to Yogi's Handbook. It saved me lots of time time, money and gave me piece of mind. Postholer.com is awesome! I think i should start with training. I'm in decent shape, i'll put Crossfit and other training to the test. My plan is to log ~500 miles by April, in addition to my regular training. I could use a good portion of my current hiking gear, what remains is fine tuning and shedding weight. Still deciding on shelter, sleeping and cooking system. My nutrition will be biggest issue, i don't eat grains, common in hikers' foods.

Notes to self: Got Pfaff 1222, had to finetune it, took days. Learning to sew, it's really fun- Sew a quilt (Jardine) which should be plenty warm, 2.1lbs, need to field test, probably too big, maybe i should make another smaller one. Sew bags, hat, working on a backpack for day hikes. Testing Merrells, New Balance, Inov-8 shoes. They all have some stupid but major design flaw, will probably need to modify if i don't find anything that i like. 2012 models look promising. I'd like to fit a sleep pad in my pack but it might not fit with current quilt, not sure what to do yet... Rendering suet, drying Marin Sun Farms meat, berries, yams and sweet potatoes. Ordered ~50lbs of nuts. Learning how to use my alcohol stove with twigs and esbit. I can feel my hip and some connections in my foot acting up on long and fast hikes. Good ol' precious Maddie starts limping if we do >15miles.
