train ride south

The trip of 2,600 miles starts with a train ride- a 44 hour ride. I've totally lost track of time. The stretch from Portland to LA started 28 hours ago, but perhaps the time is better measured in stops they let us get off the train and stretch: Eugene, Oakland, salinas, San Luis, Santa Barbara. I love the train though. Have met some really cool people, & am again reminded of the beauty & vastness of the US western coast.

This ride has allowed me to get some planning done. I've also met a couple of hikers who are at similar planning stages that I'm at- lack of organization loves company. But seriously, I am confident in what I'm doing.

About two months ago I stopped looking at too many photos & videos related to the trail so to keep a clean mental slate & minimize expectations; I think the trail will provide.

I can post from my phone in lots of southern California, & I imagine I'll be brief. Love to you.
