The unmarked areas are where we will walk this season

Marmite and Sherpa are back

Welcome back. When we left you last year at the Canadian border (oh yea, had to brag that we made it to Canada after walking 1,050 miles) we said we weren't sure if we would hike the whole PCT. Well, after one week at home and Mel's heartfelt warning that we would regret not doing the whole thing, we realized that we do want to see the PCT through to the last mile. We missed being out on the trail, liked being thinner, and were curious about the unseen parts of the trail. Plus people were so friendly, it would be good to be around that kind of human spirit again. So this PCT season is about hiking the last 840 or so miles of California.(Note for those readers not familiar with our mileage, we hiked 764 miles in '10) We're going to climb Mt Whitney too.

We're keeping the same equipment, same routine, same style of hiking because it worked really well for us. Heck, I'm even keeping the same torn and sun-faded shirt. Unfortunately we need to jump from section to section of 'unwalked' PCT trail instead of walking straight through like last year so we will have a few 'set-up' days.

This year is not a heavy snow year like last year: thank goodness. We'll start on May 12th in the desert. I can't wait to be out there. Everyday I'm reading the other postholer journals, recognizing where they are and smiling at their stories.

I hope you'll enjoy our journal and sign the guestbook.
