Working with the maps the night before our start

Day 1

First day back on the trail and the desert heat blasted us. It was in the 80's and climbing by 8:00 am with no tree or shade in sight. We used the sun umbrella even though you feel a bit silly. We climbed over the desert foothills to see Silverwood Lake in the near distant. There were so many boats and people enjoying the water. Cold sweet water so near, but so far. We had to walk around many arms of the lake and I seriously considered asking a boater for a ride. We walked from 8 to 4 pm.
