Pacific Crest Trail Map

The idea, hike your own hike, is it possible?

My feet and ankles are still atypical. My feet feel like I have half of a golf ball taped to the ball of my feet and the ankles are still swollen for no apparent reason. That being the case I have reverted to riding my bicycle to provide the solitude I require to continue my philosophic inquiry into our culture its history and evolution. Lately I have been using the web news cycle and more specifically the New York Times as catalyses for thought. Unfortunately I have gotten away from the true source of knowledge, statistical analysis as presented in liberal arts, medical and technology studies that help to uncover underling feelings, emotions, reason, tradition and logic prevalent in our culture.

The reason I have gotten away from my objective is because of my habit of reading the propaganda of the mainstream media, especially in this election cycle, news is presented in soap opera form and we are all free to draw our own conclusions. Does the soap opera approach work? The majority of Americans still believe there were WMD in Iraqi and that the Iraqis were involves in the New York attack in 01, so yea it works on at least half the population. I believe the mainstream media has found fertile ground in our subconscious and they prove the effectiveness or lack of effectiveness by polling. We are all free to draw our own conclusion because it is as unreal to most of us as TV soap and I keep tuning in to see who really killed JR.

I remember one of my first Philosophic question on the trail was where do Billionaires get their news, where do they find their reality? My answer was through polling and statically analysis of our behavior, I have no proof but just to be sure I try to spend long periods alone with my sub conscious and try to improve my reason and logical powers and expel the rhetoric and propaganda of the mass media, which are controlled by corporations and their owners, the Billionaires.

The Pacific Crest Trail is the perfect place to find freedom from the dogma, rhetoric and the constant stream of messages from corporation, politicians, religious and cultural groups or clubs even the traditions of our culture. On the trail every decision I make all day long tell me something about me. Studies have shown that we are more analytical and score better on cognitive test while hiking. The trail allows me to peel the effects of culture from my cognitive ability and I can reason outside the influences of daily cultural influences. Those influences come rushing back when I come to a town or join a group of hikers. It seemed strange to me that about half the hikers I met just wanted to be left alone. Of course I took it personal but I too wanted to be alone most of the time. Hike your own hike to me met doing it alone. Strange that I was suppressed when hikers I met didn’t want me around, but quite true. I wish I had categorized each encounter in some way but than I really don’t like being categorized.

Next trip, if there is one, I would like to get to know the other hikers better to walk and talk the day away. Problem is that the “hike your own hike” philosophy leaves most hikers an island to themselves. That seemed to be true at the time but on reflection I understand that I was being influenced by many of the hikers I met, some influences, information and news were welcome some were not but there was always some influence.
