at Cloudy Pass
We got going about 9:15. That's about 2 hours later than usual.
We went up Suiattle Pass with a stop just off the PCT at the old Miners
Ridge mine site. The one building that was standing when we came by with
our friend Maxine twenty five or more years ago is now flat on the ground.
Near Suiattle Pass we took the hikers cutoff trail to Cloudy Pass.
Stopped for a long lunch at the pass. Enjoyed the mountain views, the view
of Lyman Lakes, Lyman Glacier and Spider Gap.
Then it was down hill for 8.5 miles to Holden. We considered stopping at
Hart Lake but a conversation with an engineer who is involved with the
rehab of the Holden mine site during which he mentioned breakfast in the
morning at Holden Village moved us right along.
After setting up camp and having a tuna sandwich with our last two
tortillas we walked toward the village and read on a sign that the shuttle
bus which runs the eight miles to the lake only runs on Saturday and Sunday
because of the mine clean up.
