How can you walk in this sand?
This was the first morning my water bottles froze, but between them I was
able to get together enough water for coffee. I was fine in my sleeping
bag. Started on trail at first light (6:15).
Made 21 miles today, camped at Trail Pass. Dinner was Sardines in Louisiana
hot sauce on tortillas (I could make 3). Most excellent!
A 12 mile section of trail up to Cottonwood Pass was horrible. First, it
was all uphill and exposed. But the worst part was the soft, thick sand.
Hard to hike on, and there was lots and lots of sand in my shoes...I was
Saw a group of 5 "seniors" (guys and gals) who started at Horseshoe Meadows
going for Whitney. They had been on the trail 3 days, so they were doing 7
or 8 miles per day. They were all from the Northeast. I hope they make it!
Countdown odometer now has only 43 miles left! 2 days? We'll see...
