For the last number of years I've spent a good part of my summers as a volunteer on trail maintenance/construction; mostly on the PCT and the Tahoe Rim Trail. When I met thru hikers I would dream of how I'd like to do that some day. And now, in just a few weeks, that day will come. My longest trip so far was a 175 mile trip around the Tahoe Rim Trail. My friends all thought that was a monumental feat but I just look at how it pales against a long hike on the PCT. I've decided that being away from family and friends for three months is probably my limit so I've decided to "just" do from the Mexican border to Burney Falls this year and go for the rest in 2014. Updates/upgrades to my gear are completed and the resupply boxes are starting to pile up. I had thought that as the time approached that I would be increasing my number of training hikes as adrenaline kicked in. Unfortunately I've actually been fighting a little voice in my head telling me to "just take it easy; rest; eat good food while you still can"!
