Barrel Springs in the rain.

I'm back!

Hello to all my fellow hiker friends and readers.

Well this might sound crazy but a friend that I hiked with in 2011 "The Beave” asked me to be his hiking partner this year...and after a day of serious consideration I accepted. That next afternoon I got all my gear together and within 2 hours I was 90% ready to go. I then sat down in front of the computer and ordered a new pair of hiking shoes and a pair of pants. I'm totally ready...well except for some business to wrap up here at home.

I'm going to send two packages before I go. The first one will go to Warner Springs so I can resupply there and the other will be a bear canister, ice ax and some favorite food items to Kennedy Meadows. That is it I will be resupplying as I go. Last time I spent hundreds on mailing crap everywhere…it was so ridiculous!

My last hike was so over planned that it just simply became miserable. I was completely dependent on the mail and didn’t have much confidence in myself at the time. I personally was going through a terrible time in life and it was hard mentally and exhausting physically. I started the trail with a 50-pound pack!!! Had it whittled down to around 45 after Warner Springs, but still my base weight was well over 30 pounds. It was so hard and doomed from the beginning.

I met some amazing folks out there though and had some wonderful experiences, which I find myself, lost daydreaming about still to this day. The PCT is in my heart and I will hike this trail for the remainder of my life. It is a really special treat to be out there experiencing what long distant hiking has to offer!

As far as hiking goes I have been redesigning my equipment needs and have put together a great pack. My base weight today is 15 pounds…I still have areas that I could trim off a few pounds here and there like with my tent, sleeping bag & stove but all that ultralight gear is pretty spendy and my tent, bag and stove are still in great shape. So I’m going to stick with what I have right now. I seriously could be looking at a 12 pound base weight though & I’m super proud of what I have achieved in that area.

Ok I’m about done with this essay but I do want to invite you to my Face Book page which is all about this hike, my gear and what not. It is a private group and you have to be my friend (sounds so goofy) inorder to beable to view the page. If your on facebook please come by a check out the page...I’m always looking for people’s advice and comments. I look forward to hearing from you guys
