Pacific Crest Trail Map

Readjusting to life off the trail

As of writing this I've been off the trail for 2 months and 10 days. On my trip home I spent a day in Vancouver at a hostel, 2 days in Seattle with my cousin's friends and 2 days in Portland with Amos's Sister and Brother-in-Law. It was a lot of fun exploring all three cities and having a different kind of adventure. Then I took an 18 hour amtrak ride from Portland to SF (which wasn't as brutal as I expected). From start to finish the entire trip cost about $ 4,000 dollars, about what I expected.

I heard of hikers having a tough time readjusting to "normal" everyday life (whatever normal means) and I laughed at first. Then I got home and realized it was no joke. While I was out hiking my roommates changed houses so I came home to a brand new house and 2 new roommates. The new roommates turned out to be awesome but I still have mixed feelings about the house. Also my girlfriend had started Med school so that's taking getting used to. I'm hoping once I land a job and get on to a schedule of sorts that things will become easier.

I dream often. The trail calls to me. Along the way many people asked me "Why"? Why hike 2660 miles from border to border? All I could do was smile, because unless you get out there on the trail yourself, you'll never fully understand.
