Fall Hike on PCT

This morning I did my first Trail Magic! Someone posted on the PCT facebook page that their resupply box was not here, at snoqualmie pass, and that they were in need of maps. Since we just moved here and I happen to have maps I took some over to him this morning, along with some packets of chocolate hazelnut butter, peanut butter, and some ProBars you can't get up here in the minimart. I've been wanting to meet some thru hikers and offer some help but this was my first opportunity! After that I felt so happy and great, and of course it was another sunny beautiful day in this weird Washington Fall we're having so I jumped on the PCT headed south. We missed this section of the Trail this summer when we were attempting to do section I because we got off trial around Stampede Pass due to injuries. I've heard a lot about how this part of the trail is ugly due to clear cuts, etc but I didn't have anything else going on and I was sore from yesterday's super fast 13 mile hike I'd done in the afternoon, so stretching my legs felt good. The trail was beautiful! The Fall colors in the meadows and cool breeze with the clear blue sky was perfect! I started off with no destination in mind, something I don't usually do, and just enjoyed walking! Around noon it occurred to me that making it to Mirror Lake was a real possibility. It'd be a 16 mile day but my body felt great, I was making good time, and I had enough snacks stashed in my pack to be ok. Then I arrived in Ollalie Meadow and it was BEAUTIFUL and my pups looked so pretty against the reds and golds that we stopped and took TONS of pictures. Then we found ripe huckleberries and blueberries and ate a bunch of those. Then I got a text from Matt saying he was home from his weekend away so we turned around and headed back. I'm pretty sure we would have made it to the lake and back without any trouble and the mile-hound in me really wanted to, I'd done a bigger day than planned yesterday and I'm having so much fun testing and pushing my body to see what it can do. The miles come effortlessly to me, and I'm a little disappointed winter is coming--hopefully I can do enough skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, and crossfit to keep my body ready for the trail in the spring!
