Pacific Crest Trail Map
Teary eye goodbye
Cry Canceled wings of the sky
Pom parade to home
The day quite literally started with a power outage. Moments after midnight as I was knee deep in medical paperwork, the power flickered and died on Smart's Mountain. Oh joy. Now I know, that was perhaps a sign of things to come. Oh the beauty of hindsight.....
First, Yazhi escaped the house moments before my departure. I hadn't had my final goodbye moment and I was in tears. A delayed departure netted kitty hugs and kisses.
All was well until 10 minutes before flight departure. Yep, my flight got canceled. Apparently the plane was more needed in Denver even though it was sitting empty in SF. I started wishing I hadn't packed my pillow in my box luggage. My ultralight backpack needs a little extra care and I didn't want to risk the big crush so all my gear sits safely in a box. Somewhere......
The trail magic has already started......friendly guy at the bar who is originally from Boston but calls Arizona home bought my drinks and food. What an angel! And now I'm drunk and haven't even caught a flight yet. Tis the life I guess.
I'm chowing down on a double chocolate brownie from SugatKat Kitchen which I got from Westside Renaissance Market. Yum! I wait for yet another delay. 645 pm flight now due to depart 735 pm.
As I search for a waiting seat I realize it's an interesting culture that places their bags next to them on their adjacent seats so that no one can sit next to them. I suppose I am no different. I too look for the seat where I can find a gap and a little privacy.
Climbing out of SFO, the setting sun glints in my eye. It shines into the cabin and only hits me. I pop my ears as the world grows small. The coast line etches the horizon out the window. And yes, I'm that nerdy to think about sitting on the side with the view. Despite a full plane, I've sandwiched in between two folks and I still have a view. The fog rolls in, the sun glints off the wing and the guy next to me laughs as he watches a movie on his own player. The coast goes dark as another day sets on life. Overriding thought during flight sandwiched between two people: thank god I don't stink yet.
Simply amazing. Trail magic pickup at the airport from Nitro and Boomer complete with the pom pom sticking out the window, a welcoming home and a spot to sleep in the living room. What a blessed life!
