Hiking in the fog
Eggs, bacon and potatoes
Life savers from Dave

We were graced with a sunny morning but then the fog moved into the mountains soon after. Sensai and G Dub fixed breakfast and I awoke to its lovely aroma. Eggs, bacon and instant mashed potatoes. Gotta love hikers. After breakfast was the sorting of food and preparing of the packs to hit the trail. My food bag seems darn heavy with 5 days of food. Coming into each resupply I've been cutting it close and not really having enough food. This time, we'll see if I guessed a little better.

We arranged a ride back to the trail head for around 1 pm. We lounged in our cabin until check out at noon and then went and loitered at the coffee shop. After Sensai grabbed one last burger, trail angel Dave picked us up and we headed up to the mountain side trail head. Just as we got there, Dave pulled out a roll of life savers for each of us. How sweet. All he asks is that we pay it forward. What an angel!

We started the 2.5 mile climb out of Idyllwild on the Devils Slide Trail with heavy packs. We soon hiked up into the fog and saw several hikers coming down who had braved the weather. Sensai and G Dub were waiting for me at the top. So, it seems we've formed a partnership, looking out for each other. Did about 4 trail miles and camped early tonight.

Guess what I did when I got to camp? Yep, set up my tent. No brainer (when the brain is functioning properly). It's cold out and I sit half in my bag as I type this. Can't wait to get all the way in and warm up.
