Bear Bliss

Too cold in my bag
Rocks biting at my sore feet
Aside Big Bear Lake

Another fucking cold night. Below 40. I've had it with this Zpacks sleeping bag. I can not sleep when I'm cold which means that my body does not rejuvenate for the next day. Which, duh.....I need.

Each morning I take a magical pill. My synthetic thyroid hormone. Without this, a hard day for me would be getting from the bed to the sofa. While my challenge is not currently that, I feel the effects of my imbalanced thyroid hormone. I do not have the power I need to climb. And today in my shower, my hair was falling out like crazy. Indicator of my imbalanced thyroid hormone. I hope to soon find the balance between my dosage and my changing weight. You know.....because....I wouldn't want the trail to be too easy.

A wall tried to knock me down early in the morning during my push to Big Bear. Rocky trail hurtin' my sore feet. I had to hold back the tears. The trail got a little easier or it was the vitamin I and I soon found my speed.

I did something I thought I would never do. Music in the ears. I turned into a paranoid psycho. Is someone behind me? What's happening out there in the world around me? And to top off my musical bliss there suddenly was this super loud rattling. Yep, another rattlesnake just off the edge of the trail puttin' up a fuss. A runner went by and asked to take my picture. Told me he wanted to inspire his wife (similar in size to me) to hike the PCT. I guess that's a complement. :-)

Only took 5 minutes to catch a hitch and the couple from Las Vegas took Rotisserie and I all the way to the hostel in Big Bear Lake. We were lucky to check in early and I soon had some Stone IPA and a shower. Felt magnificent. Next chore, laundry.

Managed to catch a ride to the store so my shopping is all done. Ballast Point for round two. Had calzone dinner and brought back some pizza for fellow hikers too. Lots of folks here tonight, good times and laughter. Not quite as ruckus as in Idyllwild though. In a room tonight with Rotisserie, DJ Feels Good and Scottie P.

Nero today. Nero tomorrow.
