Cone Toss

Loony pine cone toss
Trees crashing down in the wind
Bats flying down low

First on trail today at 545 am but the speed demons soon caught me at the first water source. I had a tough morning either feeling the effects of altitude or more likely my imbalanced thyroid hormone. Was feeling light headed with trouble breathing. Caught up with Sensai who had waited for me at a tough trail intersection. He looked out for me until we caught up with G Dub. After a break, G Dub and I pushed on to the lunch spot.

After hiking through a heavily burned area we found our lunch spot to be windy, dusty and soon shadeless. After being hit with several dust storms which blew a ton of dirt into my open backpack, we went in search of a better spot. We found one against a rock but it required some clearing. Soon, all 5 of us were slinging pine cones over our shoulders. I can only imagine the hilarity of this scene observed by an outsider.

After the sun pushed me and Mehap back onto the trail I saw a mallard duck hanging out in what looked like a beaver dam zone. Everyone thought I was crazy. Due to the heavy winds, I heard at least 3 trees come down today. Flowing Holcomb Creek was our reward for hot, dusty, burnt trail. I dipped the feet in the cool refreshing water and had a nice chat with Mehap. We sped a few more miles and are camped not too far from the creek. Endless laughs as usual here tonight with Mehap, Wild Child, Star Fox, Sensai and G Dub.

The bats are out in force, flying low and collecting their dinner. Thanks for the bug removal!

Song of the day: Mehap was humming Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros Home
