Fellowship Of The Ring

Allergies serve to humble. I was allergy free until my radiation treatment in 2007. With the swallow of one radioactive iodine pill, I wiped out my immune system. I was so sick with allergies and colds for the whole year following. I didn't understand why someone couldn't tell the difference between allergies and a cold but now I get it. I bow down. And so I lay here sneezing, stuffy nose, irritated eyes wondering if I'll ever get out of Cajon Pass.

Perhaps it's some sort of sick karma that I would get stuck, not in a town, but at a gas station/fast food stop along the highway. Not even a slice of pizza to be had. They have a pretty good breakfast here at the hotel, which with some peanut butter from the hiker box (food and supplies left behind by other hikers), has sustained me all day. The nearly constant train ambiance and washing machine spin rattles the mirror in my room, topping off the charm of this hole. Ok really, I'm not complaining. I'm grateful for a bed, shower, flushing toilet. These are luxuries in my life now.

I do believe that I've managed to fix my sleeping pad air mattress. Luckily I had one patch with me. I filled the bathroom sink with water and worked my mattress through it until I found the hole. I then used the hair dryer to dry the spot I was about to patch. I chuckled as I imagined that this is not what most folks do in their hotel bathrooms. When's the last time you patched an air mattress in your hotel room?

Have watched a couple movies on TV today. Kinda weird. Fellowship of the ring, an adventure among friends, trekking across dangerous lands to reach a final destination in order to restore balance. Sound similar?
