burnt trail and turbines in distance
Morning red sun smoke
Wind turbines starting to spin
Tehachapi rest
I'd say I awoke to a fine dusting of ash all over everything except that I awoke every time that Porsche walked by my head during the night to go pee. The sun slowly arose and shone red through the smoke cloud.
Finally got on trail by 7 am and made my way down the previously burnt and shadeless trail. I took a short break in the shadow of a wind turbine but in no time it clicked on and my shade disappeared.
After arriving at the trail head, G Dub and I hitched into Tehachapi in the back of a large van where two boys sat unseatbelted. We sat on an old tire and held onto the van walls. They dropped us at the best western where we saw other hikers. Very expensive here. They claim hiker discount at $ 90 but I don't buy it. Had to twist G Dub's arm a bit to stay. He was ready to head back out. G Dub has what probably is a brown recluse spider bite on his foot but he keeps hiking through the pain. It looks like a red, oblong quarter-shaped zone of hurt.
Showers. Beer. Food. Rest. Ahhhh.
