Cake Mix Lunch

Peeing spider bark
Sweet smelling pine trees burnt black
Cake batter for lunch

Was half awake when G Dub peed right next to me. I guess I should have laughed more because he was not happy with my response. My half asleep mind was laughing though. I finally sat up when he whispered spider bark. Ok, lets get this show on the road.

I have been filled with dread for this section. All hot, dry, scarce water, wind. Get your violins out. But I have to admit that I was enjoying the hike and scenery this morning because it was new trail. I didn't hike this section in 2009.

About 10 hikers gathered at the Golden Oaks Spring for lunch. Cow shit everywhere but at least there was water. G Dub fixed up his famous cake mix and we all threw in some goodies. 19 miles until the next water.

Managed to crank out another 10 miles in just 3.5 hours. Most of those miles traversed blackened forest adjacent to endless wind farm. I didn't stop hiking during that whole time because I never caught G Dub. He rocketed to camp in just less than 3 hours. I wonder if it had anything to do with the 4 burritos he ate today. In total, he's now consumed all 6 of them and we're all standing back a little afraid of that poop scene. Camped here tonight with G Dub, Crazy Knees, Smiling Gazelle, Drop Biscuit and Scout Master.
