There was no need to utter thoughts about todays schedule. Being on trail early was a must. Long climb ahead. A hiker came by the cache probably about 4 am and I could see their headlamp slowly climbing the mountain.

We made good miles and had covered 8 in about 3 hours. There were rumors of trail magic at the Walker Pass Campground so my pace was quick and deliberate. After a 45 minute lunch around 11 am I booked it down the trail to cover the last 8 miles by 230 pm. G Dub didn't come by during lunch and I figured that he must have fallen asleep.

I knew that I should stop and rest but the body would not. The intense heat began to zap my brain. As I walked into the campground, everyone started clapping and cheering. Each hiker that hikes in gets this fun and uplifting welcome. Yogi and Oakie Girl were there with trail magic. All sorts of cool beverages, spaghetti dinner, watermelon, pancake breakfast, hotdog lunch. Gino was there too with beers, fresh fruit and veggies. And he brought me a resupply for the next few days of trail to Kennedy Meadows. It turned into a late night with hikers sitting around chatting. As hiker midnight passed, Berkeley Bill rolled in about 10 pm having finished a 32 mile day. What a character!
