beer in bishop
Slept in until 5:45am but lounged around in bed as long as I could to rest the toe. Later in the morning I made a trip into to town with Y2K (the dog) to run a few errands. I picked up some goodies at the health food store, down wash at the outfitters and then junk food shopping spree at Vons. I'm putting together my next resupply of 5 days plus an additional 3.5 day resupply for my Uncle Rubicon to bring to me at Sonora Pass.
The afternoon's big project involved taking a big plunge. It was a scary decision but I finally decided to wash my Marmot down sleeping bag. I didn't wash it following my 2009 PCT trek. I did keep it pretty clean because I always wear clean long underwear inside, but it was showing some grime around the part that touches my head and neck. These bags can be sensitive to soaps and then too much heat from drying so it was a leap of faith to put it into water. I used the bathtub and worked the safe down soap in and then rinsed with cold water several times. I used the spin cycle on the washing machine to get the rest of the water out and then I put it in the dryer using the air setting and a couple tennis balls to help break up the clumps of down. After several hours, I had a fluffy, much cleaner looking bag. Success! Now we'll see if I'm any warmer in the Sierra.
I've received word that my journal updates have been missing some very important details, such as, BEER! So here it goes.....Going all the way back to Tehachapi, I forgot to mention that I had some Amnesia IPA (no surprise I forgot) made by Indian Wells Brewing out of Inyokern. Following that was Walker Pass where I consumed an interesting selection of Bud, Steel Reserve and Sierra Nevada Pale. Kennedy Meadows included Lobotomy Bock and Death Valley Pale Ale also from Indian Wells Brewing. Bishop has netted Lagunitas Sucks (due to family connection) and Epic IPA and Double Nut Brown from Mammoth Brewing. Life is good!
I also got my postholer and wordpress blogs updated, purchased new shoes and insoles for a few weeks from now, sorted through my food and set up my new tent. Yummy salad dinner followed by a call from my mom and then reading. A full day for sure!
