Pika calling hi
Ant hauling off my toe skin
Long river climbing
The night was slightly challenging! I was all tucked into my bag but I was cold around my hips. I spent the next what seemed like hours trying to evenly distribute the down throughout its panel. I would sit up, mess with it, lay back down and wait to see if I would warm up. I eventually fell asleep so I guess it worked. Later in the night, I was feeling cold but tried to ignore the troubling thoughts that I'd screwed up my bag by washing it. When I awoke, I checked my thermometer and it read around 20 degrees. Well, that would explain the hint of cold because my bag is rated to 15 degrees.
Early in the day as I made my way up Glen Pass (11,947 feet) I heard a pika call out and it echoed in the canyon. Further up the climb, I just happened to look back and saw a pika run across the trail. So I got out my phone, and using the iNaturalist app, I recorded the observation. As long as I have my GPS on, it records the lat and long too. And the next time I have cell service the observations will automatically upload to ACS.
I hiked passed Rae Lakes and down a long canyon. I had lunch at the bottom of the descent and worked on my toe a bit. I pulled off some dead skin and later on I saw an ant headed off with it. Yum!
Passed mile 800 as I climbed out a different canyon. Camped just a couple miles from Pinchot Pass with pct hiker Elizabeth.
