River Dip

Cold river shower
Mosquitos dive bomb my ears
Love chicken ramen

I'm exhausted. Lots of steep up and down. Section I is as brutal as I remember. Was the first to leave camp this morning at 7 am. Hiked nearly an hour before finding Snickers and Cherub.

The hot mid morning found me climbing yet again. I could not take my sticky, stinky grunge a moment longer and found a spot in the river to get cleaned up. You gotta really want it. Because that shit is cold. It was so cold that my feet started to hurt.

Pushed over Benson Pass before having lunch a few miles later at a nice lake. Was thinking of another dip when the sky immediately clouded and turned dark. The afternoon trail was tough with tons of rocks that bit at the feet. And then there were the new, more evolved mosquitos. These ones don't waste time landing on your arm but go straight for your ears. It's almost like they know you won't slap yourself on your ear to kill them. Fuckers.

The last two mile climb was tough but Cherub rewarded me with chicken ramen which lifted my spirits. A cooked meal is such a treat. Huddled inside my tent, the mosquito whine drives on.
