Was excited to hit hwy 40 and hitch into Soda Springs so was on trail by 7 am. Had a good climb up and around Tinkers Knob. About 7 miles into my morning I started running into all the day hikers. The first one said I was the 17th thru hiker they'd seen that morning. The number of day hikers I saw at least quadrupled the number of pct hikers. Some were full of questions about the trail and I would stop and talk for a while. Trampled by turtles is a blue grass band I just learned about and it seemed quite appropriate to describe the incredible day hiker scene.

Arrived at the hwy just before 1 pm and found Reno Dave hanging out with trail magic. An awesome guy who just comes and hangs out on the weekends. He had fruit, beer, water, soda and chairs. I hung out there for a few hours before he gave me a ride into soda springs. Thank you trail angel Dave!

In soda springs, Tinkers Pub was closed so I went to the general store and picked up some sandwiches, fruit, chips and beer. Sat around back and enjoyed my snack while reading. I'm almost done with vampire book #4. The other day I was thinking that all I needed was some vampire blood to heal my toes and help me power through the trail. After having an ice cream sandwich and buying a second, I figured it was time to head back to the trailhead. I put my thumb out and had a ride in no time.

As I sat at the trailhead eating my second ice cream sandwich, Sneaks rolled in after a 28 mile day. Soon after, Hot Tub, Coincidence, Sweet Tooth and Mike came in from resupplying in Truckee. We all went another half mile and found a good camp spot. We even had story time with their new book. Good times and trail reminiscing!
