Quail covey scurry
Ice cold spring water is best
Forest full of bears
I was called awake by a great horned owl. I guess there was a bear hanging around the A tree spring last night. I didn't see it or hear it. Folks were clapping their hands and shouting out. But all was ok this morning. Was tired this morning due to sleeping with one ear open all night and had to drag myself out of my tent.
Slow miles all morning. Was in a bit of a funk. To top it all off, I stumbled upon bears in the trail two different times. The first time I had a premonition that there was a bear around the corner and sure enough. Luckily, both were happy to run away from me.
Had lunch at duck soup pond and got some horrible tasting water there too. To top that experience off, while getting water I managed to fall in and get my left foot wet. Doh!
Happened upon an off trail spring a few hours later and gladly dumped the crappy water for ice cold spring water. The afternoon trail was littered with down trees which takes extra work to get around. The whole crew from last night stopped about 3 miles back but I wanted to push a few more miles while I still felt good. Camped here again by myself and trying to push all the bear thoughts away.
